I don't know why its forbidden. Aren't we human beings?
First of all, sorry for not having answered that comment on my blog SO long ago. I don't actually check old posts for comments, sorry.
And second, to answer your question, actually they don't expect us to do something about this. Truth be told, most of us were raised in a rather apathetic way and most of us say "I would like to help, but I can't". Which is what we have to change first.
